Eligibility to Open an SGD Yield Account

Due to compliance and tax laws and regulations, SG Yield is currently available only to businesses incorporated in Singapore that qualify as active Non-Financial Entities (NFE) for CRS and FATCA purposes, with some exceptions.

Active Non-Financial Entities (NFE)

Means a company that meets any of the following categories:

  • Active Business: For the past calendar year, less than 50% of its gross income is from passive sources (including investments, dividends, interest, royalties or rent) AND less than 50% of its assets is used to derive such passive income;

  • Startup Company: it is a company incorporated for less than 24 months AND has not yet started operations AND does not intend to operate as a financial institution;

  • Holding Company of Nonfinancial Groups: a company that holds shares of subsidiaries that are not financial institutions and is not itself an investment fund.

  • Charity: Charities that are registered under the Charities Act (Cap. 37) and are not financial institutions; and

  • Any other categories falling under the definition of Active NFE or Active NFFE under CRS and FATCA regulations respectively.

Business with U.S. Person

We are unable to onboard businesses with U.S. Persons, which includes:

  • All U.S. entities (companies, partnerships, trusts etc.)

  • All U.S. tax residents (including non-US entities who are US tax residents)

  • Any non-U.S. person who shares a joint account with a U.S. Person or otherwise allows a U.S. Person to have signatory authority on their account

  • Any U.S. Person defined under Rule 902(k) of Regulation S under the United States’ Securities Act of 1933, the United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s (CFTC) Rule 23.23(a)(23) and any "specified United States persons" under the tax laws of the United States.

Financial institutions and investment companies

Yield is not available for financial institutions such as depository, custodial or insurance institutions, or investment entities engaged in offering financial products, fund management or related activities.
