Replacing your original cards is part of the overall card program migration that Aspire is carrying out in Q4 2026.
Answers to the questions we expect about replacing your original cards before 31st December 2026.
Your original card stays active. Creating a replacement card does not switch off your original card. Both cards work side by side until you cancel the original card or until 31st December 2026, whichever comes first.
About the change
Does my original card keep working after I create a replacement card?
Yes. Your original card stays active, and you can keep using it alongside your replacement card. It stops only when you cancel it or on 31st December 2026, whichever comes first.
Note: If a card is lost, stolen or compromised, cancel it straight away instead of replacing it.
Why do I need to replace my cards?
Aspire is moving to a new card program. As part of this change, your original cards stop working after 31st December 2026, so replacing them now means no disruption to your payments.
Which cards are affected?
All cards issued under the old program will stop working. This includes your physical and virtual cards linked to your debit accounts or your Advance limit.
Note: Cards already on the new card program and cards that are already cancelled don't need replacing.
How do I know if a card needs replacing?
Open your Cards page and look for the Expiring soon tag. Any card with this tag needs replacing.
Tip: If the first 6 digits of your card start with 461199, the card needs replacing.
Why is my card marked Expiring soon when it expires after 31st December 2026?
All original cards stop working after 31st December 2026, irrespective of the expiry date shown in the app or printed on the card. The tag means this card will stop working on that date.
What happens if I don't replace a card?
Your original card stays active until 31st December 2026. After that date it stops working, and any payment on it, including recurring payments, will be declined.
Replacing a card
Who can replace a card?
Admins: can replace cards for any user or budget.
Budget Owners, who are not admins: can replace cards issued to members of budgets they own.
Other users: ask your Admin or Budget Owner.
How do I replace a card?
Filter for Expiring soon cards using the main button or the filter in the filters pane.
Open the original card from your Cards page.
Select Get replacement card.
Review the details.
Select Create replacement card.
For a physical card, select the address you want it shipped to.
Will the replacement card have a different card number?
Yes. The replacement card has a different card number, expiry date and CVV.
Is there a fee to replace a card?
No fee. All replacement cards, including physical cards, are free.
How long does it take to replace a card?
A virtual replacement card is created straight away and works immediately. A physical replacement card is delivered to the address you choose. Your original card keeps working in the meantime.
Who can see the replacement card's number?
Only the cardholder the card was issued to can see the full card number. If an Admin or Budget Owner creates the replacement card, ask the cardholder to add the replacement card details at their saved merchants and to Apple Pay or Google Pay.
Why can't I see the Get replacement card button?
Only Admins and Budget Owners can replace a card.
What if I need to replace a card for security reasons?
Cancel the original card instead of replacing it. A replacement card does not switch off the original card, so the original card could still be used until it is cancelled.
Using both cards
Do the original card and replacement card share a spend limit?
Yes, if the card has one. Both cards share that single limit, so spending on either card counts towards it. Having two cards does not raise the limit, so the cardholder cannot overspend. If your original card has no spend limit, there is nothing to share.
Does spend on both cards count towards my budget?
Yes. Spend on the original card and the replacement card counts towards the same budget, as long as the card was linked to a budget.
Can I spend more than before while I have two cards?
No. The shared limit and the budget apply across both cards, so your total spending power stays the same.
What if a merchant charges the original card after I create a replacement card?
The charge still goes through while the original card is active and within its limit, and it counts towards the shared limit. Once the original card is cancelled, charges on it are declined.
Can I change the limit while both cards are active?
Yes. Any changes you make to the original card are applied to the replacement card automatically, and the other way round.
Saved merchants and wallets
What are saved merchants?
These are merchants that have your original card saved for recurring payments, such as subscriptions. The list is generated from your transaction data. It appears on the original card's page only. Use it as a checklist of the merchants you need to update.
Will my merchants update to the replacement card automatically?
No. You need to update every merchant yourself by adding the replacement card details.
Note: Keep the original card active until you have updated all your merchants, so your recurring payments are not interrupted.
Is the list complete?
Not always. It comes from past payments, so it can miss a merchant you haven't paid recently.
Note: Check your own records too, and update every merchant that has your original card saved, whether or not it is listed.
The saved merchants list shows zero. What does that mean?
It means the original card has not been added to any merchant. Still check to be sure that it does not need to be updated anywhere.
I've updated a merchant. Why is it still on the list?
The list shows every merchant that has the original card saved, and it doesn't track which ones you've updated. Merchants stay listed after you add the replacement card, so you need to keep track of the ones you have updated and the ones still pending.
Do I need to add the replacement card to Apple Pay or Google Pay?
Yes. The replacement card has a new number, so add it to your wallet separately from the original card. The cardholder needs to do this.
Cancelling the original card
Do I have to cancel the original card?
It is good practice to update the replacement card at all your merchants and cancel the original card well before the 31st December 2026 deadline. If you do not cancel it, the original card stops working on its own on that date. We highly recommend updating your merchants and cancelling the original card as early as you can.
Can I undo a cancellation?
No. Cancelling a card is permanent.
Can I still see my saved merchants after the original card is cancelled?
Yes. The list stays on the original card's page, so you can keep checking it even after the card is cancelled.
