What is an Account Number?
An account number is your bank account’s unique identifier. Think of it as your account’s “address” within the bank. It tells the bank exactly which account belongs to you among all its customers.
What is an IBAN?
IBAN stands for International Bank Account Number. You can think of it as your account’s “passport” for international payments. It follows a standardized format that includes:
A country code
Security check digits
Your bank’s identifier
Your actual account number
This structure helps banks around the world correctly identify the exact account when you send or receive money across borders.
How it Works with Your Aspire Account
Aspire uses IBAN as the account number for your SWIFT USD, EUR, or GBP account details. Since the IBAN format already includes your account number, you’ll only see one set of details instead of both an IBAN and a separate account number for SWIFT transfers.
When sending or receiving international transfers, the information you need will vary depending on the transfer method:
SWIFT transfers (cross-border via the SWIFT network): Provide IBAN along with the SWIFT code.
Local rails transfers (cross-border payments processed as domestic in the destination country): Provide the Account Number (or IBAN) together with the relevant Local Bank Code, such as:
Sort code (United Kingdom)
Routing number (United States)
IFSC (India)
CNAPS (China)
