Be Aware of Phishing Attempts

Updated over a week ago

What is phishing?

Phishing is a type of online scam where fraudsters impersonate trusted companies like Aspire to trick you into sharing your personal or financial information. These scams can happen through emails, text messages, websites, or even phone calls.

How do phishing attempts usually appear?

Phishing attempts are designed to closely resemble official communication from Aspire. Scammers may:

  • Use our logo, brand colors, and similar fonts to make their messages look legitimate.

  • Send emails or messages that claim something is wrong with your account or that you need to take urgent action.

  • Direct you to fake websites or login pages that closely mimic Aspire’s official site.

  • Call you pretending to be Aspire representatives, asking for sensitive information.

Note: Do not click on any suspicious links, share your personal information, or log in through unknown websites or apps.

What do phishing messages typically say?

Phishing messages often create a sense of urgency, fear, or excitement to trick you into taking action. They usually contain misleading information and may attempt to impersonate trusted entities like Aspire.

Here are some common tactics used:

Urgency or Threats

Scammers pressure you to act fast by creating fear or panic:

  • “Your Aspire account has been suspended. Click here to reactivate immediately.”

  • “Unusual login detected. You must verify your account within 30 minutes.”

Requests for Personal or Financial Information

Phishing emails may ask you to reply with sensitive details.

  • “Reply with your full card number and expiry date to confirm identity.”

  • “Please share your OTP by replying to this email or SMS.”

Fake Rewards or Offers

Fraudsters promise fake benefits to lure you into clicking.

  • “Claim your $100 Aspire cashback now – offer ends today!”

  • "You've Earned Cashback – Verify Aspire Account"

Impersonation of Trusted Entities

Phishing messages often mimic Aspire’s branding or tone.

  • Email uses Aspire logo but sent from a suspicious address like aspire-support@mailservice.com

  • It’s signed off as “Aspire Team” but does not mention your name or any specific details about your account.

Suspicious Links or Attachments

Phishing messages may include links or files that lead to fake websites or malware:

  • “Download this file to update your Aspire account settings.”

  • “Click this link to avoid being locked out.” → (leads to fake login page)

Should I click on any links in a phishing message?

No. Avoid clicking on any links or downloading attachments from suspicious messages. If you log in or provide personal information through these fake sites, scammers may gain access to your Aspire account or financial information.

How can I differentiate between a legitimate Aspire message and a phishing attempt?

Here are a few things to look out for:

How can I report a phishing attempt?

If you receive a suspicious message or email pretending to be from Aspire, or if you come across a website that looks like Aspire but seems suspicious, please report it to our security team at security@aspireapp.com

When reporting, include as much information as possible to help us investigate, such as:

  • A screenshot of the message or email that you received

  • The email address, phone number, or web link involved in phishing

  • The date and time you received

  • If you have shared any information or credentials with a phishing website.

Our security team will investigate and take the necessary steps to protect your account and keep the Aspire community safe.

How can I protect myself against phishing?

To keep your Aspire account secure:

  • Always access your Aspire account directly through the Aspire app or by typing https://app.aspireapp.com/login into your browser.

  • Do not share your Aspire credentials, OTP codes, or personal information with anyone.

  • Regularly review your account activity and report any unusual transactions to us immediately.

  • Stay cautious of any unexpected requests for sensitive information.
